Travesty Of Reality Of Social Media – Part 01

I just stumbled upon something while I’m doing some research for the MBA module, International Business. Since the subject itself is somewhat broader to address, I spent some time going through some statistics available on the internet from various sources. They are figures depicting the current situation of people in the world. It’s interesting to see how things are changing over the period of time, and to tell you the truth, the world is changing in an immense speed in every possible direction.

This article is about using social media by modern generation. It has become a common practice today to use them by almost every company, institutions and even individuals. With the availability of different types of websites and other mobile applications, people tend to follow many types of resources at a given time. I don’t say that’s bad, and it’s clear that it’s the future we are heading in to. But, my consideration here is whether people are aware of how to use them and the consequences they’ll come across by doing so.

This is a broad subject to talk about. I’m glad to cover some important aspects of things I’d like to point out to people out there. (These are my personal views of things, and the reality or the understanding of someone else may be completely different from what I say here)

First of all, I personally follow some of the famous social media sites and apps, and the experience is amazing. Almost all of them are having a feature to attract all of our senses in the same time, and for a moment we completely forget our existence in this world. We completely glue ourselves in to those beautiful worlds, and for a moment we go around the globe with just moving our fingertips. Every time we do so, we are temporarily disengage from the real we are living in, from the tasks we do in a day-to-day basis. For some, this can be treated as a little break from the usual work. As long as you treat it that way, it won’t affect your life much. But unfortunately, they are highly addictive, which means they have a tendency to bypass the fact that the clock is ticking!

For what sort of content people are attracted in to? With the new platforms, people decide what they want to watch or read, by following and subscribing to pages and channels. In that way, that particular virtual space becomes the ultimate fantasy world for anyone. Simply put, the exact sort of things an individual would like to do instead of what they are doing right now. This can be used as a great motivation as well. And I believe the people posting such content, market those materials in the same manner. Ultimately people start jumping into the same world, by start posting and making videos and other imagery contents.

My focus here is not for those people who have already taken an initiative. But, for the others who just enjoy surfing through those contents, and may be, over spending time in the virtual world. Unknowingly, a gap is being created between the creators and watchers.

In my next blog, I’d like to point out what the gap, and how it’s created. And why people are not aware of it. Also the dangers which would impact up on individuals for not making an attempt to understand it and to do something about it.
